Marathon des Sables

Huw Williams, Business Development Manager at CCICM is now just 3 weeks away from taking part in the Marathon des Sables in order to raise money for Scope.  He’s hoping to raise £8000, partly through corporate sponsorship.  CCICM has donated £500.

Described as the toughest foot race on earth, the Marathon des Sables is a 156 mile race across the Sahara desert – 6 marathons over 6 consecutive days carrying all food and equipment.

“I’m currently running 70 miles per week with the 7kg rucksack which I’ll be carrying across the Sahara” said Huw.  “I’m also on a fat adapted diet to ensure slow release of energy throughout the race.  The temperature ranges from up to 50 degrees centigrade in the day to sub-zero at night.  To survive in that, let alone run, you need to be at peak fitness.”
